Unleashing a “Flash Flood for Good” at the Clinton Global Initiative

Would you drink water from a puddle on busy city street?

For many people around the world, the only water available to them is of “street puddle” quality … or worse.

We're gathering recently with some of the smartest leaders in government, business and not-for-profits at the Clinton Global Initiative help find solutions to this and some other of the world’s toughest problems. 

The good news is that getting clean drinking water to those who need it most can start with something as simple as one tweet. Combine that tweet with millions of others, and it can be used as a mega-voice for the voiceless, raising awareness of issues that are real and life threatening, but completely solvable.

Dozens of celebrities have stepped up to unleash the power of 140 characters by launching Flash Flood for Good, a social media initiative that aggregates Facebook and Twitter feeds of celebrities, government leaders, businesses and the public-at-large for a three-day focus on clean drinking water.

We invite you to join stars such as Morgan Freeman, Scarlett Johansson, Whoopi Goldberg and Matthew McConaughey in reaching hundreds of millions of people around the world with messages about the global water crisis. If interested, simply visit FlashFloodForGood.org to add your digital voice to raise awareness or to donate funds. 

Through Flash Flood for Good, we can build on our Clinton Global Initiative commitment to “Save One Life Every Hour” by sharing clean drinking water.

Earlier this year, Chelsea Clinton delivered the 6 billionth liter of clean drinking water to a family in Myanmar. Just last month, she traveled to Rwanda with her father, President Bill Clinton, to see our water purification packets at work with the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) program. Through CSDW, we have helped save more than 33,000 lives and prevented 250 million days of illnesses.

In fact, it was here at CGI that we committed to ‘save one life every hour’ by ramping up our partnerships to share P&G water purification packets around the world,” said leader of the P&G CSDW Programme Allison Tummon-Kamphius. “At P&G, we think about how we can touch and improve lives every day, and with the launch of Flash Flood for Good today, we are making that happen.”
