Employees at the P&G Gillette Reading manufacturing site in England, recently took a day out to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the site and 60 years of manufacturing excellence.

To P&G Gillette employees, it was important to look back and celebrate the roots that have given the site its unique identity. Over the years, the P&G Gillette Reading plant has successfully evolved to keep pace with changing consumer trends and business needs; manufacturing a range of different products, starting its journey of becoming one of the biggest and best aerosol manufacturers in Europe, as well as becoming a foundation of the local community.
The day’s 60th celebrations began with a welcome breakfast, attended by The Mayor of Reading, Councilor Rose Williams and Councilor for Whitley, Emmett McKenna, as well as P&G senior management.
The Mayor of Reading, Councilor Rose Williams said: “I am delighted that the Gillette brand has the confidence to invest further in our town. You have been a great employer, as I am sure you will continue to be. Exciting times! And I am looking forward to seeing the [community] plans.”
Two special (video) guest appearances were made by Gillette Ambassadors Antoine Griezmann, French professional footballer and George North, Welsh and British and Irish Lions international rugby union player, both offering their messages of congratulations.
P&G Gillette Site Leader, Husnu Yilmaz,The P&G Gillette Reading plant has a rich heritage of manufacturing with excellence and aerosol innovation and today, we are one of the biggest aerosol manufacturers in the UK and produce millions of cans of Gillette, Venus and Old Spice Shave Care products and deodorants enjoyed by men and women all over the world.  I am particularly proud of our manufacturing successes and our family of employees-past and present. We are lucky to have employed multiple generations of families since 1957, some of whom will be invited back here to celebrate with us later in the year.”
Before the main event, a lunch with 1950’s themed music and entertainment allowed employees to mingle with each other and tour a Gillette Heritage Museum, created specifically to celebrate the site’s 60th anniversary. There was a selection of scientific demonstrations provided by Gillette’s Innovation Centre colleagues, who are site neighbors. Employees learned about 3D printing and the science behind the making of a shaving foam.
Husnu Yilmaz, Gillette Site Leader said, “I would like to make a special mention of the work done by Gillette Reading Plant employees in supporting local good causes. The money raised for local charities ‘Naomi House & Jacks Place’ –providing hospice care for children and teenagers, as well as ‘Daisies Dream’ –providing support for bereaved children, will make an immeasurable difference to people within the local community.”
P&G Gillette’s 60th anniversary events have only just started.  Over the coming months, there will be events organized with the local community, schools and charities and… employees can look forward to opening their Time Capsule (sealed during the day) when they celebrate their 75th anniversary in 2032!
