Justin Whittaker, owner of the MJ’s Premier Store in Royton, was announced as ‘Best Independent Retailer’ at the 2017 Asian Trader Awards in London.

An ambassador of P&G’s ShelfHelp scheme, Justin was awarded for his outstanding convenience store, which has seen spectacular results in both turnover and customer numbers.

He recently experienced a huge uplift in his laundry category, with a 48.3% rise in sales value[1] after P&G visited his store to update fixtures and swap traditional laundry powders for pods and gels.

Justin Whittaker from MJ’s Premier Store in Royton, said:“I’m over the moon to collect this prize and for the achievements of the store and my staff to be recognised by Asian Trader. Being part of ShelfHelp has given me valuable insight on the homecare, fabric care and beauty categories, which has contributed to the store’s success in the past 12 months.”

Sandeep Hegde, Director for Convenience, Wholesale & Club Channel, P&G, added:“Congratulations to Justin and all the employees at MJ’s Premier Store. Our ShelfHelp retailers are the best in the business and it’s great to see them recognised on such a prestigious stage.”

The ShelfHelp retailers work with P&G’s convenience teams to help combat the misconception that homecare, fabric care and health & beauty can be difficult categories for independent retailers to effectively merchandise.
