Public Company Information:

"I am proud that P&G is so committed to supporting local charities and I’m delighted that our largest donation of £90,000, raised by our Weybridge based employees, has been donated to two causes working so hard to improve the lives of local children"

Today, Monique Picou, a Director of Procter & Gamble (P&G) in the UK & Ireland, presented the cheques totalling £90,000 to Children with Special Needs Foundation (CwSNF) and Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals Charitable Fund (Child). Both were chosen by P&G because of the company’s focus on support for children through its corporate cause ‘Live, Learn and Thrive’.

CwSNF was set up in 1996 to raise funds to support individuals, groups and schools in their requests for equipment, holidays and tuition and to provide essential care for children with special needs in the local area. 15 years on, the charity can proudly boast that it has raised over £3 million, with 100% of donations going directly to the special children. The £45,000 windfall from P&G will provide fun and laughter for 1,400 special needs children and their families to enjoy the first night of the pantomime, Peter Pan, at Woking Theatre. In addition, the charity will be able to fund a number of other local projects. CwSNF founder, Gordon Parris, MBE said “The CWSNF Committee is extremely grateful to all involved in raising such a fantastic sum at P&G. The money will be used to purchase 1400 tickets for the pantomime. It will also be used to fund a cycling project at Abbey School, Farnham, this includes purchasing a van to carry the bicycles and tricycles to the venue where children with special needs can cycle safely. The cycling project will cost approximately £21,000 and will give great delight to the children. We know that both these projects will enhance the lives of our special needs children within Surrey”.

Staff at St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey were overwhelmed by the donation which will make refurbishment of the Young Person’s Ward a reality. The refurbishment has been long overdue and is needed to improve the environment and experience for older children who are too old to be placed on a children’s ward but too young to be placed on an adult ward. P&G’s donation will provide 50% of the estimated amount to complete the project to a standard which would not be possible with NHS funds alone. Dr Paul Crawshaw said “After taking the views of staff and young people some of the things that are planned include access to a wireless network for patients, provision of iPads to use, installation of a large flat-screen TV in the sitting area, access to a Play Station 3 and other electronic games, age appropriate soft furnishings and decorations throughout the area, provision of a room for private interviews with patients and a health library of paper and electronic documents relevant to health issues in this age group. The Paediatric Team at St Peter’s Hospital are extremely grateful for P&G’s very generous donation and for all the hard work of their staff in raising this fantastic sum”.

P&G is the company behind leading brands such as Pampers, Gillette, Fairy and Olay. The donations were raised with a huge amount of effort and passion by employees in a variety of ways, including P&G product sales to employees; cake sales; auctions, raffles and Sony (based next door to P&G) providing a product sale.

Speaking at the event, Monique Picou commented: “I am proud that P&G is so committed to supporting local charities and I’m delighted that our largest donation of £90,000, raised by our Weybridge based employees, has been donated to two causes working so hard to improve the lives of local children”.
